McBennett, Deirdre
Special Areas:Deirdre McBennett is a Partner in the ByrneWallace LLP Banking and Finance Team. She has over twenty years' experience in large-scale financings on both the lender and borrower side.Deirdre acts for a wide range of domestic and international funds, financial institutions, alternative lenders, semi-state bodies, corporate borrowers, as well as many of the top tier Irish housing associations, known as approved housing bodies (“AHBs”). She advises on corporate debt financing for domestic and cross-border deals spanning real-estate finance, acquisition finance, project finance and development finance for large-scale residential and commercial developments, as well as debt and corporate restructuring. Deirdre works across a broad range of sectors, specialising in financings for the social housing sector. She advises on the full range of financing options, from traditional Housing Finance Agency (“HFA”) funding to international institutional investor financing for large-scale social housing portfolio acquisitions for social and cost-rental housing delivery. Deirdre advises some of Ireland’s largest funds operating in the sector, as well as several top tier (Tier 3) AHBs including Cl?id Housing, Oaklee Housing, Circle Voluntary Housing Association and Tuath Housing. Deals and Awards:In 2020, Deirdre led the ByrneWallace LLP Banking and Finance team advising Clúid Housing Association on the transaction which won Finance Dublin - Loans & Financing (Social & Affordable Housing) Deal of the Year 2021, as a pathfinder deal in international institutional investor funding by Legal & General Assurance Society Limited ("LGAS"), one of Europe's largest institutional asset managers and a major global investor, to an AHB.Career:Deirdre has been a partner in ByrneWallace LLP for over 18 years.She lectures on the Law Society of Ireland Professional Practice course ("PPCII"), and its diploma courses in Corporate Law and Governance and Insolvency and Corporate Restructuring.
